ÍY SȻÁĆEL, Gilakas'la, Ha7lh Skwáyel, tânisi (greetings),
Thank you for your interest in the NEȾOLṈEW̱ project. We are a group of Indigenous communities from across Canada, and Indigenous researchers from the University of Victoria and Simon Fraser University, aiming to strengthen Indigenous languages in Canada. We are working together to understand better what helps language learners become new speakers of their language.
The name of our project, NEȾOLṈEW̱, is a SENĆOŦEN word, meaning 'one mind, one people'. This name was shared with us to reflect the spirit of our research project and approach, and acknowledges that our project is based within the territory of the SENĆOŦEN speaking people. As one part of our project, we are planning to create an online sharing portal called NILLA (NEȾOLṈEW̱ Indigenous Language Learning Atlas). This online portal will include both a public interface as well as a password-protected part only accessible to communities who are engaged in language work.
This survey is an invitation for you to share information about your language programs for inclusion in the online portal called NILLA. Filling in the survey would tell us about what you have done and learned in your organization. We are hoping that by sharing with us the kinds of programs you offer, you can help Indigenous communities who are working to strengthen Indigenous languages. The more you can share with us, the more you may help other Indigenous communities and language programs. How much you choose to share with us is up to you. The information you share in this questionnaire would be shared on the NILLA portal, where anyone who is interested in language work can view it. Please then, only share with us information you are comfortable sharing publicly.
In the future, if you agree, we may contact you again and ask you to share with us more information.
Our project is scheduled to continue until 2020, but the NILLA portal will remain indefinitely. Because of this, we may not be able to remove information you share with us if you change your mind in the future. Please only share information with us you are comfortable sharing. You are welcome to leave any questions blank.
If you want to learn more about the NEȾOLṈEW̱ project or about this questionnaire before you agree to share your information with us, please contact one of our Research team members at survey@netolnew.ca.
