Child Development and Digital Media

Welcome to Child Development and Digital Media Project Enrollment Survey!

Thank you for your interest in our study! This study is being conducted by the Grow to Care Lab at Simon Fraser University. Your participation is very important to us to help understand how digital media affects youths’ development.

To participate, you must:

Reside in British Columbia.
Your child must be 10 to 12-years-old.
You and your child must be fluent in English.
You and your child are available to come in person to Simon Fraser University-Burnaby campus (we offer free parking).
Have two devices at home (one with audio/video).

This study has 3 sessions:

Session 1 (SFU Campus): Parents and children will engage in conversations together; parents will also be asked to complete a short interview and a survey in a separate room. Children will take part in an interview wherein they answer questions about hypothetical stories and additional questions related to digital media. This session will take approximately 60-75 minutes to complete. Families will receive $30 and children will receive a fun book.

Session 2 (at home one-year later): Parents and children will receive an invitation to complete a short online survey. This survey will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Families will receive a $10 e-gift card.

Session 3 (at home two years later): Parents and children will receive an invitation for the children to complete a Zoom interview and for the parents to complete a short online survey. This session will take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. Families will receive a $20 e-gift card.

You and your child's data will be confidential and protected.

In total, families will receive up to $60 and a book.
