Welcome & Application Overview

Thank you for your interest in becoming a UVic Sustainability Scholar!

The Sustainability Scholars Program pairs UVic graduate students with community, government, Indigenous, and not-for-profit partners to advance applied research projects. Scholars work with project mentors to complete a 250-hour internship between May 1 and August 15, 2026.

Before starting your application, please ensure that you have:
  • Reviewed the internship postings and program information on the Sustainability Scholars Program website
  • Confirmed that you meet the eligibility requirements
  • Carefully read the application guidelines
What you’ll need to apply

You may apply to up to three projects with full application materials.

For each project you apply to, you must upload one PDF file that includes:
  • A customized cover letter explaining your interest in and fit for that specific project
  • A resume (maximum three pages)
  • Contact details for two references (one academic and one professional)
Important: Your cover letter must be customized for each project. Generic or reused cover letters significantly weaken applications and may result in your application not being reviewed.

File naming requirements

Each PDF must be named using the following format:

ProjectNumber-FirstName-LastName.pdf
(Example: 2026-03-Amelia-Hernandez.pdf)

The project number is shown in the title of each posting. You may rank additional projects beyond your top choices, but application materials are required only for your top-ranked projects.
