Principal Investigator: Dr. Candy Ho, Chancellor’s Chair & Educational Studies Faculty, KPU — candy.ho@kpu.ca
Co-Investigator: Dr. Canan Günes, Curricular for Change Research Project, KPU — canan.gunes@kpu.ca
This study is funded by the KPU Chancellor’s Chair Award.
INVITATION & PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
You are invited to take part in a research study. We are inviting K–12 educators across British Columbia — both career educators and classroom teachers — to share their views.

This study looks at what K–12 educators need in order to design and teach BC’s career education curriculum (Career Education K–9, Career-Life Education, and Career-Life Connections). Your answers will help build a province-wide picture of what educators need — what has helped you, what has gotten in the way, and what support is missing — so that schools, districts, and partners can offer better support.
VOLUNTARY PARTICIPATION
Taking part is completely voluntary. Your choice to take part or not will have no effect on your job, your standing at your school or district, or your relationship with KPU. If we learn anything during the study that might affect your choice to keep taking part, we will tell you.
PROCEDURES
If you agree, you will complete an anonymous survey online. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes. The survey runs on SurveyMonkey, a survey tool licensed by KPU, and you can complete it on your own device wherever is convenient. Some questions ask you to reflect on challenges in your teaching, which a few people may find uncomfortable. You can skip any question you do not want to answer, and you can stop at any time before you submit.
WITHDRAWING FROM THE STUDY
Taking part is voluntary, and you may skip any question you do not want to answer. You may stop at any time before you submit. If you decide to stop, you can still skip to the end of the survey to enter the draw. Because the survey does not collect your name, we cannot tell which answers are yours once you submit; for this reason, answers cannot be withdrawn after they are submitted. If you close the survey without reaching the end, your partial answers will not be used and will be deleted.
CONFIDENTIALITY
We do not ask for your name or any other direct identifier in the survey. In this sense, the survey is anonymous. However, because you may share details (such as your district or the subjects you teach), it may still be possible to identify you indirectly. To lower this chance, we code all responses and remove identifying details before we analyze and report the results.

The survey is collected through KPU-licensed SurveyMonkey, which stores data on servers in Canada. We download the responses to KPU-issued computers and save them in password-protected files on KPU OneDrive (also in Canada). Only the research team can see the data. We may use your answers, including short quotations, in reports and presentations, but we will not include information that identifies you (such as names or titles).

When you take part in research online, there is always some chance of hacking. To protect you, we will: (a) not ask for information that identifies you; (b) turn off the survey tool’s IP-tracking feature; (c) download your data to a secure KPU computer or cloud service and then delete it from the survey tool; and (d) let only the research team see your anonymized data. We suggest you turn off browser cookies before you start, or clear them when you finish.

At the end of the survey, a separate link will ask for your email — only if you want to enter the prize draw and/or join a focus group. Your email is kept separate from your survey answers, is never linked to them, and is deleted once the draw is done and focus-group recruiting is finished.
BENEFITS
Taking part gives you a chance to reflect on your own teaching, which some people find useful. Your answers also help build knowledge about what career educators across BC need, which may guide better support in the future. We cannot promise you a direct benefit.
RISKS
A few questions ask you to reflect on challenges in your teaching, and this could bring up some discomfort. You can skip any question, and you can stop at any time before submitting. If you would like support, these free services are available across BC at any time:
  • 310 Mental Health Support — call 310-6789 (no area code needed), 24/7
  • 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline — call or text 9-8-8, 24/7
  • HealthLink BC — call 8-1-1
  • If you have an Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) through your employer, you may use it too.
PAYMENT
If you wish, you may enter a draw for a $250 gift card. Near the end of the survey, a separate link lets you give your email to enter the draw. Entering the draw is optional, and your email is not linked to your survey answers.
STUDY RESULTS
We will share what we learn through reports, presentations, and publications that anyone can read. We will not identify you in anything we share. If you would like a copy of the final report, please email Dr. Candy Ho at candy.ho@kpu.ca.
DISPOSAL OF DATA
We will keep the survey data (which has no direct identifiers) for two years after the study is completed, so we can return to it during the publication process. After that, we will delete the electronic files and empty the trash, and shred any paper files.
